Happy New Year – Top 5 & Top 5 Lists!
Happy New Year! After a 3-month hiatus, I’m endeavoring to return to blogging in this new year.
So since this first day of 2019 is a Tuesday, that means it’s time for another “Top” list – and today, I’m going to give you a Top 5 list from 2018 and a Top 5 list heading into 2019.
Top 5 Blessings of 2018
Our 12th Anniversary
On February 11th, my darling hubby and I celebrated our 12th anniversary (this picture is from a summer visit to my daughter and family during a camping trip).
My First Full-time Remote Job
On March 21st, I got hired for my first full-time remote job, after working as a freelance, independent contractor for over a decade. I am a senior editor, primarily for English language arts, for an international educational publishing company. The job offers a salary, bi-weekly direct deposit paychecks, medical insurance (including dental and vision), 401K, paid holidays, paid time off (up to 120 hours per year), and other benefits.
My 60th Birthday
On March 29th, I turned 60! A few days later, my youngest daughter hosted a combined surprise birthday party and celebration for earning my doctorate degree in 2017.
Grandchild number 5!
In October, I learned my youngest daughter and son-in-law were expecting their fourth child. This will be my fifth grandchild (and as we learned in December, this will also be my fifth grandDAUGHTER!)
In November, for Thanksgiving, and then in December for Christmas, we enjoyed wonderful time with various family members. In addition, some of the blessings of my job include paid time off and paid holidays. So I was able to get days off during the weeks of both holidays, plus yesterday and today, for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
An additional blessing just after Thanksgiving was the arrival of a new fur baby, dog number 4, who had to be rehomed due to unfortunate circumstances. Meet Mocha, an approximately 8-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback with a wonderful sweet disposition, who gets along great with our other 3 dogs and 8 cats! She’s resting on my hubby’s lap here.
Top 5 Goals for 2019
Declutter and Simplify with the New Year Cleaning Challenge
My focus words or phase for 2019: Declutter and Simplify. I’ve spent too many years with my life and my home full of clutter. This aggravates my soul and my spirit, and even adversely affects my physical and mental health. At 60 (approaching 61 this March!), it’s way past time for a change!
I am in a group on Facebook called, Cleaning Bursts. The suggested strategy for 2019 is the New Year Cleaning Burst Challenge. This is a free challenge to participate in, and offers numerous printable checklists and calendars. Check it out if this is something YOU want to tackle this year!
Manage Time More Effectively
I have been going through quite the transition over the past several months. Ever since getting hired for my first full-time remote job on March 21, 2018, I have had a difficult time managing my time to accomplish all the things I need and want to do in addition to the job — including blogging and sewing.
But beginning last November, at my supervisor’s advice to “take back my life” and only work the 40 hours per week I get paid to work, I have happily been sewing and crafting for Christmas gifts in my spare time after my work hours. I accomplished a decent number of gifts by Christmas, but will have some more to finish this month. Didn’t quite start soon enough! Plan for 2019: Start planning in January for Christmas 2019!
Clear What Is Holding Me Back
I have been on an email list called the “Daily OM” and in a Facebook group called “A Year to Clear What Is Holding You Back.” This is actually a year-long course consisting of daily meditations and encouragement to help you let go of whatever is holding you back, so you can make progress in life. Below is a screenshot from the site describing what the course covers.
While the course is not free, you can choose what you would like to pay, and it is actually very reasonable. If you’re interested, learn more details HERE.
I have tried for years to blog consistently. I definitely need to develop and implement a plan to do so. I really enjoy blogging, but it often gets pushed to the side when other things take priority. My strategy is to be more structured in my daily schedule so I can make blogging a “natural” part of my day.
Sew and Create Consistently
Now that I’ve been sewing and crafting Christmas gifts for the past couple of months, I’m even more eager to make time to sew and create consistently. I’m especially interested in increasing my Etsy shop inventory by adding ready to buy items, instead of just my customized items. I also really need to create my K-Lee’s Kreations site here on WordPress! I have the domain and have begun setting up the site. Stay tuned!
Here are just a few of the items I completed for Christmas gifts.
