No April Fool’s Joke – First Motivational Monday for April!

consistent progress

Back to blogging on April 1st

Reflecting on My Phrase for 2018:

It’s true, I’m working on getting back to blogging – no joke! 🙂

As my schedule became very busy with higher priorities, I had to re-evaluate what needed to take precedence. Even though I enjoy blogging, and would like to make it more of a business than a hobby, at this time, it still is more of the latter. So I’m kicking off my renewed efforts to blog by reviewing one of my last posts from back in January.

Since we have arrived at the first Motivational Monday of April, and I’ve been absent since early January, I wanted to look back again on my phrase for 2018.

I thought looking at the goals I wanted to achieve / did achieve in 2018 would give me motivation for achieving my goals in the next 9 months of 2019. I have added some updates and many of them are ongoing!

Did you choose a word or phrase for 2018?

I selected my phrase for 2018 as: “Change and Growth.”  I had previously written out my goals, and as it turns out, they all DID address the ideas of changing and growing. Imagine that?

In order to accomplish goals, we usually do need to change our mindsets and our existing behaviors, and subsequently grow into new ones.  I divided my list of goals into 5 primary categories, as you will see below.

     Freelance Work

On March 21, 2019, I celebrated one year in my full-time remote position, so this was a big win and goal achieved!

     Entrepreneurial Endeavors

I still need to put more effort into my K-Lee’s Kreations business – this includes building up an inventory of “ready to sell” items, as well as promoting my custom orders, and getting all my various sites up and running. My initial plan was to have my main site feature the entire business, then use smaller sites to feature specialized areas or products.

I’ve been debating the wisdom of that initial plan and thinking “simplify” for greater peace of mind! [And, note, my 2019 phrase is, Declutter and Simplify!] Now, instead of having numerous sites and monthly fees elsewhere, I’ve moved everything but my Etsy shop here to WordPress … so stay tuned! 😉

For both freelance and entrepreneurial goals, I need to put more effort into promoting and marketing myself. I need to better maximize the potential of Pinterest and Instagram for my businesses.

     Professional Development

I still would like to take courses or otherwise learn more about grant writing, white papers, press releases, ebooks, and those types of specialized areas of writing that I see job leads for frequently.

     Educational Goals

As I’ve mentioned previously, I finally achieved my ultimate goal of earning my doctoral degree in 2017.

I want to use this degree to eventually obtain better and higher paying jobs in instructional design, curriculum/course development, assessment writing, and online tutoring/course facilitation.

Ever the lifelong learner, I still plan on pursuing additional education in other areas of interest, including life coaching.

As of last fall, 2018, I have also signed up for small business management, computer graphics, and virtual assistant programs to add to or enhance my skill sets.

     Personal Goals

*Achieve better health – lose weight (about 40 lbs. to go!), eat better, get more sleep, exercise regularly. Especially since receiving some new health diagnoses last month, I really have to commit to making healthier lifestyle choices.

*Write my next book, finally – my “fire story” from 1985. My goal is to have that completed in time for the 35th anniversary of that event, so by March 2020.

*Allow for more “me” time to do whatever – or nothing – without feeling guilty!

*Stash money away in hubby’s and my joint savings account, and in my IRA, on a consistent basis. Update as of today, April 1, 2019: I now have 3 separate accounts earning money, with a total balance of nearly $10,000. This is a big win over last year at this time! 🙂 Two of these are IRA accounts: a personal one through Edward Jones, and my work account through John Hancock.

The third is kind of neat and offered through PayPal, called Acorns. I opened the account with $25, and now have $25/week transferred from my checking account. My current balance is over $800 just in that little account. They also offer opportunities, such as I am sharing, for you to earn money by inviting friends to open and invest in accounts.

*Do something “crafty-creative” every day – whether it’s working on an actual project, or skimming through magazines and books for ideas, or designing/planning the next project.

*Pay off debts and eventually sell this home and buy a new one in New Hampshire (back to NH for me), so I can be near my two youngest daughters and sons-in-law…AND three of my four granddaughters! Update as of April 1, 2019: We have paid off our car loan, and some smaller debts, and moving on to more!

*Blog consistently and begin earning residual income from blogging – still learning about the monetization aspect of blogging!

So…This was my first step for 2019: At Publish for Prosperity, you can find a plethora of awesome content at very reasonable prices! I have purchased many of these resources for personal use and find them well written and helpful.

So as a new affiliate, I want to invite you, my readers, to first check out a FREE article and audio transcript about Journaling to Stay Motivated – and then look at an offer to purchase this amazing package of four different journals and their supplemental materials. You can use them for yourself and/or offer them to your own blog readers!

  2. nice motivational post, nice goals! we all bloggers have been in some writer’s block sometimes but it is important to go back to blogging! i myself changed my blogging style many times, and some lack certain level of creativity or motivation but after all it’s a part of me so i never left the blog.

  3. Thinking though your goals and actually putting them down requires a great deal of effort. I wish you the best in your endeavours! Keep motivating up along the way 🙂

  4. We have very similar goals. If I could make a career out of being a student I’d stay in college forever. I’m up to two degrees and four certificates but it’ll never be enough!

  5. Definitely needed this motivation post. I feel like I was lost but thank God I was able to start again.
