Sewing and Sweating?
On a September Saturday?
So it’s Sewing Saturday and it has been a very sultry September day… temps in the 80s and humidity level about the same!
I don’t enjoy humidity in the summer, and definitely don’t appreciate it in the fall. This is my favorite season, and our leaves here in Maine are already turning beautiful shades of red, orange, and gold. I’m ready for cool, crisp weather! Too much sweating on a September day when I want to sew!
Today’s projects included three baby gifts.
I’m working on finishing my fourth granddaughter’s quilt. Baby Shara was born in July and I have unfortunately not had enough time to finish this quilt yet! I like using flannel for baby quilts. I’m making this reversible. The section on the left is the front side, and has four photos imprinted – one in each corner (like the one you see with my son holding his daughter). The section on the right is the back, with a Noah’s Ark panel in the middle.
This is also for granddaughter Shara. It’s also going to be a reversible item, with a very soft flannel fabric on one side (owl print), and a soft “bumpy” fabric on the other side (turquoise fabric). It will then have the purple satin blanket binding around the edges.
It has become my own tradition to make these “blankies” for my granddaughters. This is a completed one I made for Lilly, granddaughter #3. I also used the same owl print for hers.
There’s a new baby on the Banks side of the family! My hubby’s youngest brother and his significant other just had their first child, baby Oliver, last week! So I’m extending my tradition of making baby blankies for this new nephew! They are using a jungle theme for his nursery, so I found this cute flannel print with jungle animals and the green “bumpy” fabric for the reverse side, and a blue binding.
