November 14 – 3 Things Accomplished Today

Greetings! I’m still playing catch-up after a busy weekend and dealing with family issues. I am continuing with my thematic blog posts, based on ideas from the Ultra Blog Challenge and the Article Writing Challenge. This post was intended for Friday, November 14th, and Fridays are for lists of accomplishments!

So last Friday, these were my three things for the day.

The FIRST thing I managed to accomplish was a small de-cluttering task. Clutter…clutter everywhere! Can’t stand it, but it seems to happen far too easily, especially in this small house.  I try to keep the paper clutter somewhat organized–as contradictory as that sounds–in a couple baskets on the breakfast counter. That means all mail, magazines, bills, and random odds and ends end up in these baskets.

Problem is, as you probably know, all of THAT stuff piles up quickly! It suddenly dawned on me that I had two nearly empty plastic 3-drawer chests in the den, so I sorted through those baskets and a couple other areas of the kitchen, filled an entire 13-gallon trash bag, and put most of what I kept in those drawers.

And once again I found myself asking, “WHY???” Why do I do this to myself? It’s evident in nearly every photo taken in the house…clutter, lurking in the background! Clearly a habit I must break and correct!

The SECOND thing  I accomplished was some SEWING–YAY!!! 🙂   I have “sew” many things to sew between now and Christmas! Trying to catch up with some past due projects for different people, plus some new quilt and pillow orders, AND of course, I have things I’d like to make for family and friends for Christmas.

CHRISTMAS!!!  Less than 6 weeks away! YIKES!!

Anyway, I made a reversible mug rug with fall colors on one side and Christmas colors on the other side, for an exchange in a quilt group on Facebook.

I also finished a collage pillow for my hubby’s father and stepmother that she had requested as an anniversary gift.

The THIRD thing I accomplished was spending a few hours on one of my curriculum development jobs to wrap up one lesson script for a training course. This is currently one of my favorite freelance jobs; the pay rate is great and it’s rewarding to know that I can help this company build up their course library for their clients.

So yes, I did accomplish something after all! How about that? 😉

So what about you? Did you accomplish what you needed or wanted to do on Friday? How about today?

You did a lot for someone with little time to spare. Just think; If you didn’t have such a busy life there would be no clutter. None. So you should thank God for the odds and ends that lie around, giving evidence of your participation in life’s ups and downs.
I did nothing much except give sympathy and understanding to my husband, who is sinking fast with cancer. Our love is growing stronger.

It sounds like you’ve accomplished more than you expected to, Karen! It feels good when you can look back on your day and realize that something you’ve put on is completd!

Kudos to you, girlfriend! I love the pillow, too! 🙂

I actually shock when you said Christmas is only 6 weeks. You remind me of my mother in sewing. Very inspiring post!

    You got lots done. Congrats.

I also had a little bit of a declutter. My desk had lots of pieces of random paper, bills, payslips and empty envelopes on it – as well as clean laundry! Finally tidied it all away. Now how long will it last? lol

On Friday, I was touring through Lancaster so I will say Yes! I accomplished my goal for the day 😉 Today, I was trying to audit a huge stack of invoices at work and my plan was to get them all checked and filed but the power went out mid-morning which put a delay on that. But I managed to cut the stack in half, which is still good progress!

Clutter is my enemy! I keep a basket on my desk in the office and all of the mail goes in there until I have time to go through it. I hate, hate, HATE clutter in the main living areas. I try to keep my house so that if we get unexpected guests, I don’t sweat it. Doesn’t always work though, lol….

I never accomplish everything on my to-do lists but they are never ending. Lately, I try to pick 3-5 things a day and focus on those items so I can feel like I have accomplished something. I love photo pillow that you made. I’ve never seen anything like it. What a clever idea!
