Facing Fears -Focusing Forward – Part 5 of 9

Happy December 2nd and welcome to my Sunday series on the topic of Facing Fears-Focusing Forward toward 2013.

Brief recap:

* Sunday, 11/4: I reflected on fears that I have faced this year and mentioned that a certain devotional reading had prompted that reflection.

* Sunday, 11/11: I shared the devotional thought, written by author Max Lucado, regarding the connection between worry and fear.

* Sunday, 11/18: I shared how our fears and worries drain our energy and prevent us from enjoying our lives.

* Sunday, 11/25: I shared how clinging to our past fears and failures often prevent us from moving forward or having success in our present daily life, and may interfere with our future.

Today, 12/2, I want to address the idea of going forward – or to borrow Joyce Meyer’s phrase, “stepping out to find out” if we’re heading the right direction.

“There are times in life when you must take a step in order to find out, one way or the other, what you should do. Some doors will never open unless you move toward them.

Sometimes the only way to discover God’s will is to practice ‘stepping out and finding out.’ If you have prayed about a situation and still don’t know what you should do, take a step of faith.

We can stand before an automatic door at a supermarket and look at it all day, but it won’t open until we step forward to trigger the mechanism.

Trust God, take a step, and see if the door opens!”

–Joyce Meyer in “Ending Your Day Right” [Day Oct. 18]

What is your take on this idea? I love the example she uses about how that automatic door will never open on its own until we step forward and trigger the mechanism. It seems moving forward in our lives, leaving the past behind us, requires much of the same action: taking a step forward to open the door to the next chapter in our lives.

  1. I appreciate the message of stepping out in faith. I did just that when I started my blog. I have always known that my story must be told; I just don’t know how. So I’m trying something new. One step forward to see where it leads. Thanks for sharing your insights. I’m enjoying this series.
